I. ELIGIBILITY:

A Candidate must meet one of the following:

1) A graduating high school senior residing in the Denver Metropolitan area who is either an American citizen of Japanese ancestry or an American citizen who’s legal parent(s) is/are of Japanese ancestry, or

2) A graduating high school senior of Japanese ancestry residing in the Denver Metropolitan area who has permanent residence status (INS documentation) in the United States, or

3) A graduating high school senior who has a parent who is an active member of: Mile-Hi Japanese American Citizens League, Simpson United Methodist Church, Tri-State/Denver Buddhist Temples, Denver Nisei Bowling Association, Brighton Japanese American Association, Japanese Association of Colorado, Nisei Veteran Heritage Foundation or Fort Lupton Japanese American Citizens League.

II. JUDGING:

The final decision of the judges is based upon community service/personal sacrifice. Academic achievement is not a consideration. A student cannot receive both a Community Committee Award and a Community Service Award but can apply for both. These awards may not be given annually.

III. REQUIRED FORMS:

1) Community Service Application Form

2) Nomination Form with two letters of recommendation.

IV. DEADLINE:

ALL MATERIAL MUST BE POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE APRIL 3, 2009

There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this deadline. Certificate of mailing from the Post Office is required. Hand delivered applications will not be accepted.
